Blood cancers

Multiple myeloma

We review laboratory, marrow and imaging findings, and discuss treatment, monitoring and whether transplant assessment is relevant.

What the consultation involves

  • Protein studies, marrow findings and imaging are brought together into one picture.
  • Bone health, kidney function and anaemia are reviewed as part of the plan, not as separate issues.
  • Where transplant assessment may be relevant, we explain what that assessment involves.

Who may need this

  • Abnormal protein studies or a raised paraprotein
  • Unexplained bone pain, fractures or kidney impairment with abnormal blood results
  • An existing myeloma diagnosis needing ongoing monitoring

What to bring

  • Serum and urine protein electrophoresis and free light chain reports
  • Bone marrow reports and any skeletal survey, MRI or PET-CT
  • Kidney function tests and a current medicine list
